The display panel is an array of small |LEDs| along the front of the modem. These lights indicate the activity and state of the modem. They are accompanied with abbreviated labels for each activity. The labels are: modem ready (MR), terminal ready (TR), auto-answer (AA), high speed (HS), off hook (OH), transmit data (TX), receive data (RX), and carrier detect (CD).
